Love O2O
(2016, China)
When this came out in 2016, I immediately jumped on board the Yang Yang (male lead) ship. He’s ridiculously good-looking and he always uses his own voice in his works instead of dubbing, a common practice in Chinese dramas. The story is basically drama-free and what I love, love, love about the couple is that they have such profound trust and understanding of each other. They were truly meant to be. They’re both really smart and I have to admit, I’m kinda a sucker for guys who know what they’re doing.
One complaint though: the girl! There’s everything wrong with the female lead; the kisses make you cringe because you can clearly see Yang Yang trying so hard yet she’s not responding, which results in something akin to kissing a wall; her acting was stiff and mediocre. But other than that, I’m happy to announce that I’ve recommended this drama to all my drama-watching friends and they all love it!

Reply 1988
(2015, Korea)
Okay, I love, love, love this drama. It was a drama that made me reminisce about my childhood and showed me how important enjoying your youth is. The story takes place in the year 1988 and follows 5 childhood friends, who live in the same neighbourhood, through their teen years. Among the friends is one girl (played by Lee Hyeri) and 4 boys (one of whom is played by Park Bogum :P), and the most anticipated part of the drama is trying to figure out who the lead actress will end up with! A lot of scenes take place around their families and the people in the neighbourhood, with hilarious stories as well as extremely emotional ones. This drama is a must watch on a relaxing afternoon and I assure you it will have you missing your childhood!

Tarm Ruk Keun Jai
(2014, Thailand)
Sooooo, this drama was a surprise. I certainly didn’t know it would enter at number 3 on our list but it was pretty amazing. My sister pestered me to watch this drama and I must thank her for it because it changed my opinion on older Thai dramas (2014 is kinda old)! An innocent but naive girl comes to the countryside looking for her ‘missing’ father and an unlikely spark kindles between a humanitarian farm owner and the girl.
The male lead is played by Nadech Kugimiya and he is so BEAUTIFUL, he will literally make anyone swoon! Nadech’s dimples (his brows, his eyes, his eyelashes, his entire face - and bod) are not the only thing that makes this drama so appealing; the slow progress and growth between the main couple and their sweet interactions make them one of the best couples I’ve seen. In conclusion, yes, most of this drama takes place in a farm and the side characters are not too amusing but the cast is overall quite appropriate and the main leads take up most of the screen time - meaning a drama full of Nadech’s sweet pursuits and their cute bickering.

Descendants of the Sun
(2016, Korea)
Legendary. If you’ve been following K-dramas at all, surely you’ve come across this one. Even so, as overrated as it is, it reigns high at number 2 on our list! The Song-Song couple (who are now married IRL, EEHH) are simply beautiful and adorable in this drama. With a unique pairing between a soldier and a doctor, this drama will satisfy everything you crave.
The whole cast is so well-suited and the humble setting of the story makes it so much more worthwhile. The acting is of course award winning and blurs the line between reality and make-belief. The main leads and the two supporting leads steal the show with their amazing chemistry and the hints of comedy within the story fulfil the drama completely. I have re-watched this drama about 5 times and I would watch it yet again. Yes, it is that amazing and definitely a must-see if you’re just entering the world of K-dramas or any dramas for that matter.

A Love So Beautiful
(2017, China)
Where to start? This drama is just so perfect. It’s short at 23 episodes and the perfect drama to binge when you feel like watching something cheerful and happy. Hu Yi Tian plays the male lead who’s really smart and Shen Yue plays the female lead who is the ‘dumb’ girl that loves him. The drama not only revolves around their relationship but also their friendship with their three closest friends as well as heart-warming family love. The fact that Hu Yi Tian is really tall will put hearts in your eyes because the height difference, the height difference, will make you squeal so hard.
One thing you must really watch out for: withdrawal. I finished this drama in a day and then I proceeded to watch all their interviews, behind-the-scenes, basically everything else related to the drama. The soundtrack for this drama is really cute too and I really recommend reading the translated English lyrics for further heart-melt. This drama’s number one for a reason, because it’s just that good. The story really pulls you in and you just can’t help falling in love with all the characters.
There’s just a charm about Asian dramas that make you addicted to them. The list you’ve just read aims to showcase all the good things about dramas and tempt you into joining us, *evil laugh*. We truly hope you’ll enjoy watching these dramas, or if you’ve watched all of these, we applaud you for your drama knowledge *clap**clap**clap*!
Lots of love, hugs and kisses,
Nethmi and Metta
