Don't just skip to the second part!

Metta and I are avid drama-watchers. Literally the basis of our friendship is dramas and K-pop. So, for this article on the Geeking Out section, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite romance dramas from Korea, China and Thailand. Here goes!

10/

Boss and Me

(2014, China)

At the bottom of our list, so it’s true this drama almost didn’t make the cut. However, HOWEVER, the chemistry and trust between the main couple were sopraise-worthy they deserve a spot. The drama tells the story of the president of a giant conglomerate, Feng Teng, and his employee, Shan Shan, who was recruited for her unique blood type (weird as it is - it’s part of the plot). Shan Shan is extremely innocent and caring, while Feng Teng is quite the overprotective boyfriend, so you can imagine how cute their interactions are!

The 33-episode drama has a lot of ups and downs but the bickering between the leads and the amusing twists make it a very interesting watch!

09/

Love Destiny

(2017, Thailand)

I’ve never really been into Thai dramas, simply because not a lot of people around me watched them and also because the first few I found had been annoying. This drama, however, I made Nethmi and Kelly watch and we all finished in around 3 days! The plot is hella complicated, but I’ll simplify it for you: this archeology-major university student from the present transmigrates into the body of this evil lady from the past.

The interaction between the characters are amazing and hilarious, there’s plenty of comic relief to go around since there is some tension between the main characters at first. But, as the story progresses, their interactions become so sweet they’ll give you cavities. It’s 15 episodes long which is pretty long for a generic Thai drama, but it’s well-loved by us and the Thai audience. I highly, highly recommend this!

08/

My Amazing Boyfriend

(2016, China)

In short, this is the Chinese remake of the hit K-drama ‘You Who Came From the Stars’. But personally, this remake was even better than the original. The story begins when a very, very old supernatural being, Xue Ling Qiao, is accidentally reawakened by a clumsy movie star, Tian Jing Zhi. After a series of events, Tian Jing Zhi is forced to share her house with the brooding Xue Ling Qiao, leading to all kinds of mishaps that eventually bring them closer together.

As cliche as this story sounds, the comedic lead actress coupled with the serious male lead results in so many lovely scenes that earned them a spot on this list. The only bad thing about this drama is the villains who take the story on an unnecessary tangent. However, watch it for the couple if nothing else, I promise they’ll make up for any cons. Also, a heads-up, season 2 of this drama is predicted to come out in soon so keep an eye out for that!

07/

Rooftop Prince

(2012, Korea)

When compiling this list, Nethmi and I were so surprised to see that there weren’t a lot of Korean dramas on this list, even though we started from K-dramas. Rooftop Prince, though six years old this year, really deserves this position on the list.

We always like our dramas funny and this drama is one of the funniest on our list. The main guy, along with his four subordinates, came from the past to the present. As you can imagine, there are a lot of hilarious scenes where they try to adapt to their new surroundings. The love between the two main characters surpass death and time, literally, and they had such good chemistry together. The guy is arrogant and self-righteous while the girl refuses to accommodate this attitude. The character development in this drama is really enough to tempt you into watching it.

06/

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon

(2017, Korea)

This came out two years ago, but I admit, I sometimes re-watch clips of it on YouTube just because the main couple is so cute together. Without a doubt, Park Hyung-sik (male lead) is one of my favourite Korean actors at the moment. And paired with a veteran actress Park Bo-young, this couple truly is my OTP.

Do Bong-soon is a girl who is ridiculously strong and loves games. Ahn Min-hyuk is the CEO of a game company who needs a bodyguard. Add this up and you get Do Bong-soon as Ahn Min-hyuk’s bodyguard! This is one of those rare dramas where the guy falls in love with the girl first, and I’m all for it. The cute jealousy moments and other cute interactions (e.g. their height difference) definitely bring a smile to my face every time.

That’s it for now, read on to the second part for more!

Lots of love, hugs and kisses,

Nethmi and Metta
